Spring is approaching and I am all about refreshing some wardrobe staples. I love to layer and to have go-to pieces that can be mixed and matched. I really focus on three key pieces when I make an outfit (especially for work) and I've rounded up my top five of each for you!
STEP ONE: CHOOSE A SOFT SHIRT.
I always choose a soft comfortable shirt when I dress for Spring since I am always layering something over it. Peasant tops, fancier tees and camis all make great base layers for any outfit. Almost all of these listed below are under $50 too!
STEP TWO: DRESS IT UP OR DOWN WITH THE BOTTOMS.
There are so many options for bottoms that can change any outfit. If I'm dressing for work I choose black, white or pink jeans or even a neat denim skirt. If it's the weekend I break out distressed denim of any kind and I am good to go.
STEP THREE: ADD A TOP LAYER.
For my top layer I grab a jacket or a cardi and there are a few styles that are prominent right now that also look good with almost anything. Utility, moto or denim jackets pair effortlessly. Cardis are the best go to there is and I am partial to lightweight knit blends or these waterfall cardis I buy every year.
What are your favorite go to pieces for Spring?
I am pretty sure I've said it before but Friday Favorites are becoming my favorite types of posts. Looking back they have become somewhat personal, and I hope you're enjoying them as much as I am.
I read an article recently that spoke of getting more Hygge into your life. That has definitely been a goal of mine recently since my soul is feeling a bit deprived. The article was similar to this infographic and gave suggestions about how to bring more coziness to your life, both literally and figuratively. One of the suggestions was to talk to an old friend. My initial introvert reaction was that this was off-base, but I stand corrected. Sometimes a conversation with an old friend can hug your soul in ways many other things can't. It's special when a conversation can pick up just as things had left off, despite the passing of time. Life is busy, paths veer apart, but your friend mattered then, and they still do. So if you're in need of a little extra TLC, maybe take some time to reach out to someone that deserves a hello.
I am getting the major itch to get my hair lightened as we head into Spring. I only get highlights once or twice a year and during the winter months I tend to leave my hair alone while it is growing out. I'm looking into some new hair painting methods to lessen the damage, but overall I'm hoping for something like this. I also started curling my hair with a new method, and I have to say I am a huge fan. They key is this attachment or this curling iron. Let me know if want more details. (If you're in the downstate NY/LI area (or the up-island area for all you east-enders) and you have a salon you love for color, let me know in the comments!)
I ordered a new set of essential oils that came with mixed reviews. I will let you know my thoughts on them as I use the kit more.
I mentioned in this post earlier in the week that it's Nordstrom's Triple Points event and it's like extra permission to shop. Lately, things have been selling out like hot cakes, so I thought I'd give a little preview of What's in My Cart.
I mentionedthis skirt last week but I am telling you, you NEED it. Also obsessed with this one.
I am very picky about my cold-shoulder tops andthis one was a must-have. I also fell in love withthe print on this one.
I'm also picky about my stripes and this cutie of a top caught my attention.
This cardi is an answered wish too. It's one of my favorites from last year, and now it comes in pink!
Just in case you missed it, this top is on sale for $23!
SHOP THE POST
I vowed last week that despite the weather, I would bring Spring to my Instagram feed. Cut off shorts, lots of pink, camis and my new favorite shoes helped me do just that. Shop each look below!
TRIPLE POINTS PICKS
It's no secret that Nordstrom is one of my favorite places to shop. I love how they mix affordable pieces right alongside the designer ones. It's a one stop shop and I don't have time for much else.
I wait and wait for triple points events to come around. I make lists and save specific items to purchase during this time. I earn my notes super fast and then I save them for when I want to splurge again.
I chose my top ten picks but it was no easy feat narrowing it down.
10- Free People slouchy sweater- this one is amazing and seriously looks great with everything. It's pricey, but now is the time to splurge!
9- Shampoo, Conditioner, & Treatment (not pictured) - I always stock up on my beauty staples during triple points days. My current hair routine can be found here.
8- Peasant top- peasant tops are my favorite items for spring but so many of them can be super expensive. This beauty is one of the best I've found and it is worth every penny. So flattering!
7- Denim skirts- this skirt is TOTALLY a splurge but it is SO GOOD! I can never find one that is the right length, they are too short or too long and never look as trendy as I'd like. This one is the best I've found and fits like a dream. It's longer in the back than the front. I'll have it FOREVER!
6- Lace Up Heels- these shoes are so much more comfy than I ever expected, I could even teach in them!
5- Marc Fisher sandals - the it shoe for Spring and Summer and they were just RESTOCKED! I had been kicking myself over not getting this particular pair when I had the chance and luckily I snagged them!
4- An all-weather tote- I can't recommend this tote highly enough and I love that is does well in the rain too! So many bags don't.
3- An investment bag- you know I have had this bag on my list for months. I'm wondering if this is when I will finally break down to add it to my collection.
2- Non-mules for the mule-phobic- If you want to be on trend for Spring, mules need to be in the rotation. Unless you're like me and hate them. These loafers are the perfect compromise and did I mention they are pink?
1- The Suede Moto Jacket- I know, it's played out. But I can tell you from experience this jacket looks good with everything and you will grab for it again and again. It also kind of makes me feel like a superhero.
These are just some of my many picks for this upcoming triple points period. What are you going to splurge on?!
It's Must-Have Monday which is both fabulous and frightening. This weekend flew by as it always does, and I wouldn't mind another day in my pajamas. State tests start up next week so this week is all about getting the kids to feel comfortable and prepared. We do what we can.
This weekend was catch-up time around here since I had been under-the-weather for the last few weeks. Luckily I'm feeling better, and we won't mention that Mike may have just come down with the cold I finally got rid of. Hashtag sorry babe.
As I mentioned on Instagram last week, I am in full-time Spring mode, despite the weather. The mere sight of my sweaters has me cranky, and I am focusing on all of my favorite Spring pieces for when the warm weather decides to show up.
I got to do some shopping this weekend so I am excited for the good mail week that will follow. As per usual, I am buying up all of the pink I can get my hands on. And a bit more on that sentiment...
SHOP THE PINK
It's funny, I was criticized recently for shopping at the same places often, and basically, being predictable. The funny thing about my blog is that it has to be a reflection of me, which is... well... predictable. I am a creature of habit and thrive with structure and routine. I stick to a color palette, I shop at a few main stores, and my style tends to be pretty consistent. Type A anyone? To some that could feel boring, and I get that. To me it feels like comfort. I cheer on the fashionistas that take risks and wear things outside their comfort zones. I cheer them on without having to be like them, though. I stick to what works for me and makes me feel comfortable, and pretty. That won't ever change, and for the most part, neither will I. It's part of my predictable charm. (insert winking emoji)
But I digress, back to the pink.
I got this little bag (under $50) this week and it could not be cuter. It's perfect for the price, if you're not willing to splurge on this beauty that I am dying for.
I also grabbed this cami and this cardigan. I love wearing camis all spring and summer long so I tend to stock up when I can. For some reason, I always struggle to find pink, and at $39 I did not hesitate. I've also been reaching for a pink cardigan constantly, the one I didn't own, until now. I love the color ofthis beauty and it was a no-brainer.
These jeans have been all the rage and I can see why. They honestly feel like butter. I found them in stock in a few places in various sizes, so you can check them out here and here.
As for this little peplum, it was all I could do not to buy every single color they have.
I can't wait for everything to come, and to hopefully welcome some warmer weather this week.
As always thanks for reading... even if it exactly what you expected.
