THE HAIR DIARIES | FEELING BEACHY PART I

6/26/2014

part l: what you'll need.

We had our first really hot and humid week here in NY this week and I for one was tickled pink. I am so excited for the warmer weather after a very, very long winter. Needless to say, when dealing with 95% humidity, we have to be creative to keep our hair in check. As someone who doesn't feel all that comfortable with my hair back, I have to learn to work with my hair's ever-changing texture.

The best thing to use in high-humidity is sea salt spray. I've only tried a few but I am always in search of one that makes my hair minimally crunchy. I only like to wash my hair every other day or even every three days so a spray that makes my hair stiff just won't do.

I'm always completely paranoid about damaging my hair these days. I don't want to use anything that will dry them out with alcohol or weigh it down with silicone. I've seen such an improvement in my hair since I started paying attention to what is in my products.

These products are what I have narrowed things down to in terms of giving me waves that will last and minimally damage my hair.

1. 100% Pure Argan Oil-  Check the ingredients! Make sure you are actually get 100% pure oil. So many products out list Argan Oil as an ingredient but barely have any in the mixture of silicones and chemicals. This oil is a great heat protectant and will help your hair stay soft as you texturize.

2. John Masters Organics Sea Salt Spray- I love this spray because it has lavender oil in it that helps counteract the drying effects of the sea salt. This is the product I was most impressed with. This is what would determine how long you can go between washes, and after sleeping on my hair with this in it, I was still able to go another day before washing.

3. Bastiste Dry Shampoo- By far, this is the best dry shampoo I've tried. I spray it on my roots only (be generous) to absorb excess oil, massage it into my scalp for a minute or two and my hair has body and texture and looks like it is freshly shampooed.

4. Sedu Curling Wand- This little gadget has quite the following behind it and I can see why. It gives bouncy curls that last. It comes with a glove which is a must for someone spazzy like me.

I will do a tutorial on how to get these waves in the upcoming weeks!

Remember, any time you are using sea salt spray you should make sure you deep condition when you wash your hair. (refer to last week's post!)

Thanks so much for reading!
