Q: What's your favorite grade to teach? Is your classroom as cute as your wardrobe?
A: By far my favorite grade to teach is fifth. It's where I feel like I thrive and make the biggest difference in kids' lives. I've taught second, fourth and fifth so far. As for my classroom- it's not what you would expect. I LOVE the vibe my classroom has- it's serene- and the color scheme... is BLACK. I personally feel the less color the better and that color should be an accent and not a focal point. Everyone that comes in my room usually says that they feel instantly calm when they walk through the door. That's the goal!
Q: Will you always be a teacher? Will you quit teaching to become a full time blogger?
A: This was, by far, the number one question. In short- no I will not quit teaching. There are so many reasons for this, but I'll sum it up. First- I don't know if I'd be as good a blogger if I wasn't in the classroom. I personally believe so many of the philosophies I use with my students work to create an amazing Sunset Squad community. That said, I'm also very lucky to teach here in New York where the benefits are many. In my opinion, the blogging world is not reliable. One flip of a switch and it can all go away- then what? There are SO MANY ups and downs and it gets harder every day to feel like things are going well. Another reason I'm lucky to have my teaching side gig. haha
Q: What do you do for work over the summer?
A: I have always worked multiple jobs both during the school year and over the summer. I've been an adjunct professor, taught professional development classes, taught Zumba and dance classes to two and three year olds. Since starting the blog though, it takes all of my time. I use the blog as my summer job now and I love it!
Q: What made you start blogging?
A: When I started blogging Mike was working VERY long hours. He worked for a finance firm far from home (about 2.5 hours away,) so I was on my own a lot. I decided I wanted a hobby I enjoyed while he was working. It was a blast. Over time it grew and changed and it somewhat of a blur I wound up here. It's become greater than me at times and I do my best to give it my all while still having a full time job outside the blogging world.
