All of us every single year, we're a different person. I don't think we're the same person all our lives. ~Steven Spielberg
Everyone tends to make their fitness resolutions in January too. I think it's super important that as we try to move towards living a healthier lifestyle, we try to be realistic as well.
Being a fitness instructor requires me to live a healthy lifestyle. Luckily for me I've been very focused on doing this for the last few years. I always try to ease people in to clean eating slowly. I don't think it's reasonable to expect to cut all of the bad right away.
There are a few things I really believe anyone can do to feel better pretty quickly. They are a great base for making bigger adjustments as your fitness journey continues.
1. Drink water, and only water. Drinking water is one of the easiest changes we can make. Hydration is so important to all of our body functions and it will give us more energy and increase our metabolism. If you're like me and hate drinking water, adding fruit with an infuser is one of my favorite ways to help. I love my apple cinnamon water and currently I am drinking a mix of lemon, cucumber and mint as a way to cleanse my system.
2. Portion control. I don't think we should have to deprive ourselves of everything we love in order to be healthy. I think that portion control is key. Any time I want something less than healthy I just make sure I have a small amount of it and then it doesn't feel like I am falling off the fitness wagon. Too much deprivation will lead to bigger slip ups.
3. Eat a healthy breakfast with protein. I never liked eating breakfast, but starting your day off with a healthy meal helps cut cravings for the rest of the day. Protein and fiber will keep you fuller longer so you won't be starving by 9am.
4. Look cute when you workout. Another amazing tip that I got from one of my favorite Zumba mentors is to love the outfit you work out in. It's always easier to drag yourself to the gym or even just to get on the elliptical when you look adorable. Am I right? So treat yourself to some cute but forgiving workout gear. Old Navy is my go-to for these types of pieces and I've listed some of my favorites below.
